In todays digital age, we have forgotten about the actual concept of weighing using good old common balance having two pans in which you put the material to be weighed into one pan and you put the weights into the other pan. Hence, we have built a cool Maths learning app using which the child can feel the experience of weighing and learn to measure weight of objects using the common balance, thereby practicing weight measurement problems of Math. The child would learn about units of weight (e.g. kilogram, gram) and the co-relation between them.
All you need to do: An object will be placed on the right side of the weighing scale. Select the appropriate weights, place them on the left side of the scale to measure the value of that object. Then enter the reading in the weight meter shown on the top of the screen. Touch the shop-keeper when you are done to know if you have measured correctly. The shop-keeper monitors the child’s progress and paces the complexity of the problem according to the performance of the child, starting from simple measurements to measurement involving different units (e.g. 2 kg 750 gm) to measure involving decimals (e.g. 3.45 kg). The child can learn weight measurement with practical measurement experience - including weighing correctly to balance, calculating the weights, addition of weights (e.g. 2 kg 750 gm = 1 + 1 kg + 500 gm + 250 gm), decimal addition (e.g. 2.45 kg = 1+1+0.2+0.2+0.05 kg) and conversion of weights (2 kg = 1kg + 500 gm + 500 gm OR 1 kg + 1 kg).
Have fun, children!
